Older Orphans Need Help, Too
CBN.com – Robert and Ann have been ministering to teenagers who have aged out of Russian orphanages in the last year and currently have six graduate boys living in their home. Desiring to be better equipped, they were ecstatic when they learned of a Life Skills Training Seminar that would be held at the CBN-CIS office in Kiev, Ukraine.
The Life Skills Curriculum is a series of lessons that was developed by a group of volunteers working with CBN-CIS, to meet the needs of exiting orphans. The curriculum includes 10 modules that address issues and lessons in which these orphaned youth have had little training or guidance. Some topics include: Identity, Social Skills, Health and Hygiene, Love and Sex, and Time and Money Management.
Over the past two years CBN Kiev in part with Operation Blessing has trained nearly 300 volunteers from Ukraine and neighboring countries to use the Life Skills Curriculum in ministering to graduate orphans. The most recent training was held for three days in March, where 45 volunteers went through the training to be able to teach the Life Skills Curriculum to orphans.
The participants were grateful for the opportunity to gather together in a community with like minded people- all passionate about bringing hope and education to older orphans. They also expressed the deep need for such training and materials, as well as their appreciation for making it available free of charge.
As the training came to a close, Robert and Ann expressed their thankfulness for the recourses to help them in their ministry with the graduate boys in Russia.
They said, “We are full of gratitude for all you have done to bring this material to us! God will use it in awesome ways for the orphans. We’ll never fully know the impact of lives that are changed until we gather together in the presence of our precious Heavenly Father.”
