In her village in El Salvador, 10-year-old Vanesa knows how important it is to study hard in school. So when she started slowing down and missing lots of classes, her family got worried.
“I felt very sick, my head and my body hurt. I felt dizzy, and my throat hurt when I coughed,” Vanesa said.
Vanesa lives here with her grandma and her mom, who is blind. Recently, the women had to sell their small tortilla business to pay some debts. That meant no medical help for Vanesa.
“We were upset because we couldn’t do anything for her. We didn’t have money to pay for a doctor to come check on her,” her grandmother said.
Their pastor told them about an Operation Blessing medical team which was coming to town. Doctors gave Vanesa some antibiotics for the infection and some Benadryl for her allergies.
“I felt good; I was treated with a lot of love,” Vanesa said.
A few days later, Vanesa was back to school and able to play with her friends.
“I am grateful to God and to Operation Blessing because He has helped my family,” Vanesa said.
And to help the family with the bigger problem of having an income to live on, Operation Blessing gave them a new gas grill, oil, and flour so that they could re-start their tortilla business.
“I thank God because I am so happy for the gifts of medicine and the grill where I will make my tortillas. Thank you Operation Blessing,” the grandmother said.
