For months, Celia Virula of El Salvador battled an upper respiratory condition — with no signs of it letting up. A fever and a bad cough had left her feeling weak and rundown. But still she kept working.
“For me it’s more important to earn that money to help my children, than it is for me to worry about my health,” says Celia. “I want them to study so they can have a good life.”
Celia’s husband works hard, when work is available. He does construction jobs or picks fruit in Central America during harvest season. But even with both of them working, their income only covers the basics of food and rent — not enough for Celia to see a doctor or to buy medicine.
“I could be dying and I will still have to go to work. But I knew I had to do it to keep helping my children,” says Celia.
That’s when a friend told her about a free Operation Blessing medical clinic that had come to town.
“I just feel like crying when things like this happen. God always uses people to help others like me — and just when I really needed it,” says Celia.
An Operation Blessing doctor examined Celia and gave her the medicine she needed to fight the infection in her lungs. She got emotional as she described the experience at the OB medical clinic.
“They were special to me, so kind because I was so sick,” she says. “They were so gentle and understanding.”
