Four-year-old Anna of Central Java, Indonesia loves playing choo-choo train with her school mates, despite her crooked feet.
She doesn’t realize that playing this simple children’s game will damage her feet even more.
For Anna’s mother, Yenni, watching her daughter play under these conditions is almost unbearable.
“Sometimes I cry when seeing my daughter run on those feet,” says Yenni.
Four years ago, Anna was born with a congenital condition commonly known as club feet. Anna’s parents couldn’t afford the surgery to repair her feet –and soon after she was born, Anna’s dad abandoned the family for good.
"I had been hoping that my husband would help find a way to get Anna’s feet fixed, but he left us. I was really broken,” says Yenni.
That’s when Yenni learned about Operation Blessing. They had come to her community after an earthquake and when they saw Anna’s condition, they offered to help.
"When Operation Blessing saw my daughter’s feet, they offered to pay for an operation to repair them," she says.
Soon after that first visit, Operation Blessing provided two surgeries for Anna and the promise of future surgeries if they are needed. Now Anna is relearning how to walk and run again.
And for the child who has never been able to wear shoes—a special trip to the store where Operation Blessing bought her first pair of shoes.
Meanwhile, to help Yenni and her daughter to have a more stable life financially, Operation Blessing has set up a small restaurant and provision shop for them.
"It is amazing to me that total strangers would be so generous to someone they don’t even know. Thank you to all of the kind people who helped me," says Yenni.

What Our Partners Are Doing
Celia chose her children's needs over her own health. Even though very ill, she kept working, in the hope her children could have a better life. And that's just what you brought to this family.
Imagine racking up more than $35,000 in credit card debt, trying to support four children and an ailing parent, and trying to buy a new house -- all in the midst of a failing business. This was Julia Graham's plight until she learned the secret of reciprocity.
