Jesus said: “…when you give to the least of these, you give to me.” May God richly bless you and return to you the hope and love you have so generously given others. From grateful hearts around the world and here at home: “Thank God that you were there…”

CBN.comFor the parents of premature babies everywhere, one frightening question always seems to come up, “Will our baby survive?”

Recently, Operation Blessing made it possible for more infants to survive—including a little girl named Sophia.

Victor and Sveta from Kiev had always wanted children, but Sveta had never been able to carry a baby to full term.

"There was a defect in her uterus. Despite good prenatal care, we knew her baby would be born premature," says the Director of Obstetrics, Dr. Galina Marchenko.

So when little Sophia was born, she weighed only two pounds. Without immediate life support from an incubator, nurses knew she would die.

Last year there were 43 infants weighing less than two pounds and only 17 survived. In America most premature babies survive. But that’s not true in Ukraine. Even in a city the size of Kiev, outdated equipment often causes babies to die within hours of childbirth. Unfortunately, the government hasn’t been able to help.

So Operation Blessing did. They bought a brand new piece of equipment to save this baby’s life. With this simple gift, even more premature babies are surviving.

Baby Sophia was one of the first preemies to benefit from the incubator Operation Blessing provided. Six months after she left the hospital, she’s just as big and healthy as other babies her age. And her proud parents are now planning for her future.

"We hope she will be a wise, intelligent girl as beautiful as her mother," says her father.

"We thank God first for giving life to our baby," adds Sophia's mother.

"I want to thank all the people who helped us get this new incubator. We now have a chance to save some of the smallest babies," says Dr. Valeria.
