CBN.com – Ding Lu of China is 11 years old. Like most little girls her age, she keeps her secrets in a diary. She shared one of her secrets with us.
“My dream is to be a teacher,” she says. “But if I don’t get help soon, it will never happen.”
Lu was born with a serious heart defect. It cost her parents so much money, that they gave-up and abandoned Lu. Since then, her grandma has raised her. But her guardian angel is tired, poor, and weak herself—and very concerned about her grand-daughter.
“When Lu has her heart attacks, I’m always so scared,” Grandma says. “She might not ever wake up. I could lose her forever, and I don’t have any money for surgery.”
Lu faints all the time. And she still refuses to tell her friends why.
“I am afraid that if they know about my disease, they won’t want to play with me. I get so sad that sometimes I don’t even want to live anymore,” Lu says.
Without medical attention, Lu could’ve die at any minute. But her Aunt Han refused to let that happen.
“I told Lu not to worry,” Aunt Han says, “that I would go to the city and find a job and make enough money for surgery.”
Working at a restaurant for 100 dollars a month would never bring in enough money for the operation Lu needed. Then, Aunt Han heard about a volunteer medical team in town. It was sponsored by CBN. She immediately brought Lu to the clinic where CBN offered her free heart surgery.
“I was so happy when I hung up the phone. It was wonderful. Someone from far away was going to help us,” Han says.
Lu’s surgery was a success. Doctors mended her heart, so now she can run and play with her friends. She was so happy that she wrote a letter of thanks to CBN.
“I used to think my dream would never come true. But, now with the way CBN treated me and gave me this surgery… It made me feel like I really am a special girl,” Lu says.
“We are so thankful for CBN,” Aunt Han says. “You saved our Lu. She is alive… and brand new!”
