Praying for Righteous Judges
for the High Court

(CBN News) - Some Christian leaders say we may be in the most
critical moment of prayer in the history of America.
As we begin this prayer push for the Supreme Court on The
700 Club, we found one group that has been praying for months.
They have left jobs, schools, and family to come to the nation's
capital and pray - through all kinds of weather, including the
recent 100-plus-degree heat wave.
Some young people from a group called “Bound4Life”
have stood vigil in front of the Supreme Court - crying out to
God to bring righteous judges to sit on the nation's highest court.
The word “life” taped over their mouths symbolizes
the silent cries of the unborn.
Jesse Engle from Bound4Life said, “Although very few of
us are even married, we are all doing this for the generation
yet unborn, and for our children. And I don't want to be silent
in this time, and in 30 years be standing at the place where we
are now and say, ‘I did nothing.’”
“I'm here because I know that God is calling all generations,
young and old, to come and make their stand, and to cry out for
justice in America and the end of abortion," commented Bound4Life
member Tiffany Edwards.
Christian leaders have issued an urgent call to the church to
pray like never before. They say what is at stake is nothing less
than the future of America. They believe that the presidential
elections of 2000 and 2004 will have been in vain, if the wrong
people get placed on the Supreme Court.
Lou Engle from the Justice House of Prayer, a group of intercessors
and activists, remarked, "I believe that we're in the most
critical moment of prayer, maybe in the history of America. What
I believe is that the issue of abortion could be ended in these
next couple of years, but I believe it’s up to the praying
church."
Engle says it is the church's job to keep praying for the court
even if John Roberts is confirmed, and to pray that Roberts will
not end up like another judge appointed by a Republican president,
Justice Anthony Kennedy.
“[When] Judge Kennedy became a judge on the court in 1988,
they thought he was going to be conservative. But I believe he
stepped into a realm that had not been won by prayer, an atmosphere
over this court, and he turned and he was the judge that was the
swing vote in Casey v. Planned Parenthood that kept abortion alive,"
he said.
Engle believes that at least one more seat will open up on the
court in the near future, and if Christians pray, he says that
God will be faithful to give America the righteous judges it needs.
“I'm so excited about the call of The 700 Club
for massive mobilization of intercession,” Engle declared.
“It couldn't come at a better time. We need to cry out to
God, by the millions - Lord, grant us justice, hold back your
wrath on this nation - and give us one great wave of mercy. August
is the month to pray."
