Vatican May Talk with China’s Government
Pope Benedict has written a letter to Chinese Catholics expressing a desire
for diplomatic ties with Beijing.
The Assocated Press reported that the letter says the Vatican is willing
to “overcome past misunderstandings” with China's Government.
For decades, the Vatican and Beijing have disagreed over the issue of who
has authority over China's Catholics. The Vatican maintains that only the
Pope can appoint Bishops, but the Government says it has final say on the
matter.
Millions of Chinese Catholics remain loyal to the Pope and worship in underground
churches.
British PM: Christian Adoption Group Must Consider Gays
British Prime Minister Tony Blair says Christian agencies must consider
gay couples in new adoption cases.
Blair met with Christian leaders who have protested the new anti-discrimination
law, but he decided not to exempt agencies from the regulation.
Church leaders warn that agencies may close rather than go against Church
teachings.
The plan goes into effect next year.
Kenya Missionary Killed in Nairobi
A long-time missionary to Kenya has been killed in Nairobi.
Lois Anderson and her husband served with the Presbyterian Church USA for
40 years and were known throughout Africa.
They had retired to the U.S., but returned to Nairobi for a wedding in

Lois and her daughter were killed in a carjacking.
