CBNNews.com - Michael Cook, longtime gospel singer and member of the Grammy award winning group the Mighty Clouds of Joy, passed away last week. He was 46.
Cook, who'd been singing with the group for some 24 years, suffered a massive heart attack Friday morning.
Band mate Joe Ligon remembered him as a dedicated member with a unique vocal style.
"Over the years... he took that style to a new level. He was my vocal backbone in the group. He was a people person. He loved everyone. He will be deeply missed by all of us," Ligon said.
The group will gather Thursday with fans, friends and family to remember Cook at the Living Waters Worship Center in Odenton, Md. Funeral arrangements will follow the next day in Glenn Dale, Md.
Cook is survived by his wife Valerie and their three children, ages 8, 11 and 16. A friend of the singer says Cook once dreamed of managing his daughter's musical career once she turned 18.
