LOS ANGELES - The University of Southern California has picked a Hindu to be the school's next spiritual leader.
USC announced Wednesday that religious scholar Varun Soni will become its dean of religious life on July 1st. He'll take over the position currently held by Rabbi Susan Laemmle.
The dean of religious life works with 70 student religious groups and 35 religious directors on campus.
The University of Southern California says Soni will provide moral and ethical leadership.
Soni was born in India and raised in Southern California.
