DAVENPORT, Iowa - An Iowa man who prosecutors say had a long-held anti-Christian sentiment has pleaded guilty to setting a fire that destroyed a historic church last year.
Kevin Ravelin pleaded guilty Thursday in U.S. District Court in Davenport to one count of arson and attempted arson, two counts of obstruction of the free exercise of religion and two counts of use of fire to commit federal felonies.
Ravelin set fire to the First United Methodist Church of Burlington on April 29th, 2007. He also set fire to the First Presbyterian Church across the street, but only minor damage was reported there.
As part of his plea agreement, Ravelin agreed to be sentenced to 35 years in prison.
