VATICAN CITY - The China Philharmonic Orchestra has performed for Pope Benedict XVI in a landmark concert that may reflect warming relations between the Vatican and Beijing.
Benedict called Wednesday's concert at the Vatican a "truly unique event" and offered a "thank you" in Chinese. He also greeted "all the people of China as they prepare for the Olympic Games."
The 75-member orchestra performed Mozart's "Requiem" and a Chinese folk song.
Benedict has made the improvement of relations with Beijing a priority of his papacy.
