Evangelicals Say Faith Has Become too Political

Conservative Christian leaders who believe the word "evangelical" has lost its religious meaning have drafted a document saying the movement has become too political.
The statement, called "An Evangelical Manifesto," faults Christians on the right and left for "using faith" to express political views without regard to the truth of the Bible.
The declaration, scheduled to be released Wednesday, encourages Christians to be politically engaged and uphold teachings such as traditional marriage. But the drafters say evangelicals have often expressed "truth without love," helping create a backlash against Christianity.
The manifesto was drafted by Christian author Os Guiness and is signed by other evangelical leaders, but Focus on the Family's James Dobson and Southern Baptist policy chief Richard Land are not among them.
