Surge Troops Coming Home

According to this press release, 2000 troops from the 82nd airborne are now redeploying from Iraq back to the states. These troops are not being replaced by American forces - because they've been replaced several times over by Iraqi forces.
Do the math - this group alone is about seven percent of the total surge force. Look for more troop withdrawals in the coming months.
The surge worked - and stunningly. The rail roads are now rolling again in Taji - for the first time since the invasion. Our troops continue to hunt down and kill or capture Al Qaeda across the land. What we need now are more state department provisional reconstruction teams to continue encouraging the Iraqi people to spend their time and energy on constructive pursuits. That's happening too, but it can't come fast enough.
