The Secret of True Change

January 15, 2008

Driving in to work this morning, I was listening to BBC's coverage of the Kenyan Parliament's meeting.   Angry words shouted back and forth in what should be the cradle of Kenyan democracy.

The best quote I've seen about this situation is from Justice Minister Martha Karua.  She said...

"We hope and we expect that eventually everybody will come to their senses, realise that we've got to learn to live with each other."

Another interesting quote comes from Najib Balala, MP for the Orange Democratic Movement.  He said...

"Today is going to be the mother of all battles.  It will be on the floor of the house and we believe we have the numbers and we shall see."

Shouts of, "no Raila, no peace" echoed in the halls of Parliament.

One Kenyan reader of Africa Matters seems to have her own take on the violence...and it seems she has found the key to true change.

Nenkai writes:

You're quite right in stating that the problem with pride, not only that of the man in question, but that of our leaders in general. And that, I believe, is what is slowing down the peace process in Kenya today. I'm a Kenyan outside my country and I'm really crying out to God for my beautiful country and people. Nevertheless, I know that God, Jehovah who lives, is in control of the situation in Kenya because I am praying.

Kenya has many children of God. If we would humble ourselves and pray, and turn from our wicked ways and seek the face of God, then He will hear from heaven and heal our land. The problem is that if people are so filled up with greed and want for more, they get blinded by the evil one, who makes them do anything including taking up the life of another person, just to get their own way....

It's sad that we who are outside the country could not vote. I could have voted in Raila. I would wish that he would not take revenge into his hands and leave it all to God. Tell him, if you can, to repent and turn to Jesus and get His salvation for his soul. Then to seek God with other Christians and ask Him too intervene in this situation. Then we shall all see the miraculous intervention of God.

Like He did for the Israelites, He will do it for Kenya, to the glory and honour of His holy Name.

Kenya is for Jesus still. God is doing His work. He is also bringing out to the open the hidden truths about my dear country so that the true children of God will stand firm and shine brightly as the sun. God is also reminding us to prepare ourselves for His return is nigh.

God has a special thing He is going to do with our nation Kenya. If only the message could reach our leaders, to turn to The LORD, JESUS! Nevertheless, if these do not abide and heed, we Christians have the power to transform this country, on our knees, with purity of heart. Amen.
