A Saint Goes Home

CBN News, AP

Just a few days ago I wrote about not knowing the subject of many of our CBN News reports. I said that wasn't the case when it came to Dr. D. James Kennedy.

Now, I am sad to report his passing away. However, I rejoice that this great man of God is now present with the Lord he so faithfully served throughout his life.

The apostle Paul wrote, "for me to live is Christ and to die is gain." (Philippians 1:21).

I know that Dr. Kennedy believed and taught this truth to his congregation at his Coral Ridge church and through it's international ministry.  (You can read more about my association with Dr. Kennedy and my deep respect for him in my August 27th blog.)

Kennedy took his 45 member church in 1959 and turned it into a megachurch of nearly 10,000 members. He also founded the Center for Christian Statesmanship in Washington with the hope that America's leaders would "embrace God's providential purpose for this nation."

John Aman, church spokesman, said Kennedy died at his home in Fort Lauderdale in the early morning hours with his wife and daughter by his side. Click here to read the CBN News report on his passing.

Here's a quote from his daughter from the press release on his death, "There are all kinds of wonderful things I could say about my dad," said daughter Jennifer Kennedy Cassidy. "But one that stands out is his fine example. He 'walked the walk' and 'practiced what he preached.' His work for Christ is lasting - it will go on and on and make a difference for eternity." Go here to read the entire news release on his website.

As we, the Body of Christ, mourn his death, let us also be inspired by the way he lived for our Lord and Savior to make our days count for eternity.
