An Ordinary Woman's View of the Abortion Debate
April 23, 2007
Don't know about you, but one of the first places I turn when I pick up the newspaper each day is the editorial page. I'm interested in the opinions, not just of well-known columnists like Cal Thomas and Michelle Malkin, but ordinary citizens who write letters to the editors.
I was impressed with one letter that appeared Sunday in my local paper, The Virginian-Pilot. Chesapeake, Virginia, registered nurse, Dale Austin, wrote this in response to the U.S. Supreme Court's 5-4 decision that upholds the ban on Partial Birth Abortions:
"As a registered nurse, a law student and a woman, I have never understood why the women's movement felt it stood taller by climbing atop a heap of eviscerated babies."
"Why is this so important an issue to them they cling to it in spite of scientific evidence, the ultra-sound photos of moms-to-be brought to the office to be admired and even the common revulsion at the idea of scissors jabbed in the brain stem of any creature?"
"Listen, girls, more than half of these babies are female. Let's protect their rights and stop being ridiculous."
Nice job, Dale.
